Bicolana is Binibining Pilipinas Universe

 

The Historical Araneta Coliseum was once filled again with thousands of people yesterday night March 6, 2010. The people are yelling not because of an international singer performing live at the “Big Dome”, it’s not because of the PBA fiesta conference cup, the people are yelling because they want their voices to be heard and influence the decision making of the judge’s in choosing the country’s representatives to different international pageants. Among the equally beautiful 24 candidates a Bicolana beauty stands out.

The twenty one-year old Maria Venus Raj from Baao Camarines Sur was adjudged Binibining Pilipinas Universe. She also got the award for the Best in Long Gown . Joining Raj are Krista Mae Arrieta and Czarina Catherine Gatbonton who will represent the country in the Ms. International and Ms. World beauty pageants.

The 1^st runner up honor went to another Bicolana Diane Necio while the 2^nd runner honor was given to the early crowd favorite Helen Nicolette Henson. Other contestants who made it to the top 10 are Mariella Castillo, Gwendoline Ruais, Mary Anne Ross Misa, Rose Ann Aguilar, and Kate Princess Alimurong.

The Pageant was telecast via Kapuso Network GMA 7.

A lot of unexpected happenings happened during the pageant, one of which is the unexpected winning of Czarina Catherine Gatbonton who was the only one who answered the Q & A segment in Tagalog. For me there is nothing wrong with that, I just don’t know with other people. The set was not that appealing to the eyes and same with the gowns and this is only my opinion. Still the best thing that happened during the night was the winning of a fellow Bicolano. Ms. Raj was my favorite from the start till the end of the pageant.
